Affinity by Serif <\/a>– Makes Photo<\/a>, Designer<\/a> and Publisher<\/a> – all a fraction of the price the “Shop” charges all doing 99% or more what I’d expect anyone to ever need. Runs fast and efficient even in the face of other huge programs running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Works smoothly even with other programs open, videos playing. Most unexpected slowdown I get is from Chrome, Firefox these days…<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This is NOT a paid ad, nor do I expect any kickbacks or $ (though I’d accept!) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rather, they’ve EARNED this promotion by myself for making an excellent choice. I discovered them years ago and eagerly bought the software as again an alternative to the “Shop”, the temptation\/risk of pirated software and the instability and high learning curve of the “Free” stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, I HATE with a passion of the \u2026. the “Subscription” racket already overcharging, bloated, stagnant “Big Dogs” are trying to charge. New round of hate since wasted ~1 hour renewing licence to Zbrush that stopped overnight no explanation\u2026 No good alternative to Zbrush since Blender (coming close) has a high learning curve but there IS an alternative to the “Shop” – Affinity by Serif – currently on 90 day free trial with 50% off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m angry at Pixologic for my Zbrush stopping instantly and wasting an hour playing tag, thankfully not DAYS, restoring a license when I walk down Mumbai streets on vacation seeing fully cracked copies for $30 range. That\u2019s the problem with DRM – your legit customers who lined up to PAY their $ for their product get the hassle while the crackers break any protection and flaunt it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yeah – nice… Sudden popup, was using the software a day ago… Had to play tag, download, reset stuff… Serious, I spent longer doing this (for a quick re-render of internal organ) than the entire image with all these layers…!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

My product is a comic so I won\u2019t lock it – a .pdf you have to enter some password each and every time you open it is puke bait. I remember that from buying a .pdf of a \u201cMen\u2019s Adventure\u201d mag from the 50s – yeah, SURE they had 100% permission from the original owners and so afraid of someone stealing \u2018their\u2019 scan that clearly was taken from a newsgroup\u2026
But I don’t mind a nice shoutout to Serif software – if anyone is sweating over $ but wants good graphics software, Serif\u2019s products are a good one-time purchase with free upgrades and beats the “Shop\u201d doing by far what most would want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


As I type this they have a 90 day extended subscription and are 50% off. It is FAR better than \u201cFree\u201d software. Well I\u2019d still use Krita for digital painting<\/a> also since free (donations accepted) but Serif\u2019s current suite is well worth buying even at normal price. If you subscribe to other software you\u2019ll pay that amount first month or so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following is a series of images from a recent panel assembly. Now – hehe – NOT \u201cSafe for work\/Family Friendly\u201d – well if the workplace is undergoing a \u201cPost office\u201d style \u201cJob Complaint\u201d and the \u201cFamily\u201d is of that self-declared \u201cFifth Beatle\u201d who ruined the spirit of the 60s and their \u201cHelter Skelter\u201d song no problem\u2026.
So from my upcoming comic (near done now) \u201cSlave Girls from Beyond the Galaxy\u201d – this is Queen 069 the main character getting some hot foreplay from a Hive Inseminator named Trode. Quick professional gauge on how well the tissue implants work and how many eggs he can pump into her\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simply put -this was a VERY difficult image – layers of transparency, components that had to be assembled separately, lots of color correction. Now I did the base parts in different software – Poser, Zbrush, made lots of the backgrounds, inseminator, prop myself – tentacle by Davo for the record. But how to assemble?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’d already made this prop – full 3d section for layering – after I recovered my “Liscence” I played with the colors and expanded a bit then rendered a screenshot.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Well it\u2019s a matter of different components but I spent LONGER renewing my liscence to Zbrush that stopped suddenly (?recent windows upgrade?) despite being 100% legal, something I bought ASAP when I could afford it and no fake\/cracked software of that nature on my PCs (though I bought 4 Computers ago)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For such a large work with lots of internal shots I have standalone files in my 3D software (Poser Pro) so I don’t have to mess with backgrounds. Some is stock figures or bought stuff, some is my creation….<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

With the other components in play and the Affinity view on another monitor I position the prop (the tentacle that is Trode’s tongue and the lighting)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

From said image subtract and select the critical component…<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

And this is where the magic begins! You can make a custom “Mesh Warp” with dots where you want to hold or bend\/stretch\/twist the image however you want. Thus instead of trying to make morphs on the figure or use the ‘pregnancy’ dial that would get the wrong results here I can literally simulate in layers with some warping the utter violation of such internal probing!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Then I played more with layer\/lighting\/textures – Affinity photo for image filters, lighting filters, etc.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

All that for a tiny panel… Oh, well, if I’m making a comic I hope others will buy I’ll put lots of WORK into it – both an awesome story (but a good XXX read alone) along with excellent effects that’d rival if the late Bob Guccione had made an XXX rated Barbarella style movie in the 90s versus his awesome Caligula in the late 70s… Imagine trying anything like this with live models…!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m at kind of a kooky flow since I bought \u201cComic Life<\/a>\u201d on a sale but later they came out with the final Affinity Publisher halfway through this project. Going forward I\u2019ll probably use the entire suite instead of Comic Life (which is very good and I recommend regardless) – but easy to finalize working images in photo – then insert into custom panels that\u2019d make Comic Life beg for mercy – then export to be put on bottom layer and text\/letters added above it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This isn’t any big social issue – just a demonstration of workflow done in appreciation of a company that charges a sanely small price for awesome software in a sabotaged economy (even before the virus\/riots) of everyone trying for as much as they can grab right now for less and less.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
